FIELD: physics; optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to apparatus for verifying valuable documents. When realising the method, the verified valuable document is illuminated in order to excite luminescent light which is detected with spectral resolution. Due to illumination of a section (35) on the verified valuable document (BN) which is being moved in direction (T) past a luminescence sensor (12), where the said section (35) stretches in the said direction (T), efficient detection of characteristics of luminescent emission is provided, even for valuable documents which emit weak luminescent light.
EFFECT: reliable verification using a compact luminescence sensor.
