SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for emulsion copolymerisation of vinyl acetate and at least one alpha-olefin, as well as an emulsion of copolymers obtained using said method and used as a precursor for spray drying re-dispersible powders. In the emulsion copolymerisation method, the alpha-olefin has a chain which contains 9 to 25 carbon atoms. The method involves addition of pre-emulsified alpha-olefin in the presence of a surfactant and a protective colloid. Conversion of alpha-olefin is higher than 90%.
