FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. In order to separate helium from a helium-, nitrogen- and methane-containing fraction, the helium-containing fraction is at least partially condensed and separated into a helium-rich gaseous fraction and a helium-impoverished liquid fraction. The helium-rich gaseous fraction is then condensed until concentration of helium in the resultant gaseous fraction is at least 90%, preferably at least 95% and particularly at least 98%. Further, the helium impoverished liquid fraction is expanded, evaporated until at least 70%, preferably at least 85%, of helium contained therein is in gaseous state and separated into a helium-rich gaseous fraction and a helium-impoverished liquid fraction. The helium-rich gaseous fraction is then heated and added to the helium-containing fraction.
EFFECT: invention increases helium output to 99,8% while saving compression energy, reduces the cost of extracting nitrogen before final liquefaction of helium.
