FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to structural materials operating in conditions of high thermal load and oxidative medium and can be used in chemical-metallurgical industry to make articles and structural components exposed to aggressive media. In order to make a porous workpiece based on reinforcing fibres or fibres of a preformed reinforcing frame, a gas-phase coating from pyrocarbon, silicon pyrocarbide, silicon pyronitride, boron pyronitride is deposited, after which a fine- and/or ultrafine filler is put into pores between the fibres, said filler being made of material or a mixture of materials, at least one of which chemically reacts with silicon to form silicon carbide and/or silicides of refractory metals. The workpiece is siliconised by a vapour-liquid phase technique via capillary condensation of silicon vapour, followed by heating to 1800-1850°C and holding in said temperature interval for 1-3 hours. The fine- and/or ultrafine filler (e.g. a mixture of powdered carbon and SiC or Si3N4, or lower silicides of refractory metals) is put into the pores between fibres in form of a suspension which contains non-foaming, non-shrinking and low-coke number binder.

EFFECT: high oxidation resistance of the composite material without deterioration of strength properties thereof.
