FIELD: mining.
SUBSTANCE: to define ash level, portion of rocks is selected to measure its weight and to be placed in vessel to be filled with water to known total volume of rock mass. Weight of said mix of rocks and water is measured. From difference of measured masses volume of rocks is defined as difference of known total volume of rocks and water and volume of added water. Proceeding from rocks weight and their volume, their mean density is defined for ash level to defined therefrom. Rocks may be sampled manually or by machinery.
EFFECT: himplified and faster process, higher accuracy.
