FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device has a plurality of illumination modules, each having a light source and an optical element configured to receive light from the light source and collimate the light into a beam, a liquid crystal display panel, a controller which receives image data and illumination uniformity measurement data which correspond to the real illumination of each of the plurality of parts of the liquid crystal display panel and a projection lens. The liquid crystal display panel is placed between the plurality of illumination modules and the projection lens. The controller controls illumination in image data by correcting image data in order to match the real, measured illumination of each part of the liquid crystal panel, and subsequently sends the corrected data to the liquid crystal display panel, or controls brightness of each illumination module based on image data.
