SUBSTANCE: method involves resonance compression of an input microwave pulse with duration T by accumulating pulse energy in a cavity resonator and outputting the energy into a load discretely by periodic and short-time transformation of one operating mode of the resonator, on which energy accumulates during the first half of the duration of the input microwave pulse, into another mode on which the accumulated energy is output in portions during the second half of the duration of the input microwave pulse through fixed time intervals Δt. T/2>Δt>>T0, where T0 is the two-way travel time of the wave of the first operating mode along the resonator. The apparatus has a multimode cavity resonator with an energy input element and an energy output element, microwave switches based on T-shaped waveguide H-branches. In each H-branch in the half-wave short-circuited side arm, there is a microwave switch and a control signal source.
EFFECT: high pulse repetition frequency.
