FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing an aliphatic isocyanate by reacting a corresponding primary amine with phosgene in the presence or absence of an inert medium. The method involves feeding an amine stream for gas-phase phosgenation at temperature higher than 200°C but not higher than 570°C and absolute pressure from 0.8 bar to 3 bar, wherein the amine stream has average polarographically reducible impurities (PRI) of less than 10 moles per million moles.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain slightly coloured or colourless isocyanates with relatively low content of colouring compounds.
