FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing aromatic isocyanates by reacting primary aromatic amines with phosgene in a gaseous phase. The method is characterised by that the phosgene and primary aromatic amine react at a temperature higher than the amine boiling point in a reactor having a main rotationally-symmetric reaction space for flow control. The flow rate of the reaction mixture, averaged on the cross-section, along the axis in the main rotationally-symmetric reaction space on an area of the reaction space where amine groups are converted to isocyanate groups with conversion of 4-80%, is at most 8 m/s. Furthermore, the flow rate of the reaction mixture, averaged on the cross-section, along the axis in the main rotationally-symmetric reaction space on the area of the reaction space where amine groups are converted to isocyanate groups with conversion of 4-80%, is constantly less than the flow rate of the reaction mixture averaged on the cross-section at the beginning of said area.
EFFECT: present method provides high output of aromatic isocyanates while simultaneously prolonging operation of reactors.
