FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: molecular hydrogen is obtained from water electrochemically in the presence of a catalyst - a halide of an alkyl salt of acridinium, which also acts as a background electrolyte. The electrochemical process is carried out using a glass-carbon working electrode, a glass-carbon auxiliary electrode and a silver chloride reference electrode at potential ranging from 0 to -1.0 V.
EFFECT: invention simplifies and reduces the cost of the process, improves environmental friendliness of producing molecular hydrogen.
