FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: active matrix substrate includes: a second capacitor electrode electrically connected to a first pixel electrode; and a first capacitor electrode electrically connected to a second pixel electrode, wherein the second capacitor electrode is located in a layer which lies between the first capacitor electrode and the second pixel electrode. A coupling capacitor is formed between the first capacitor electrode and the second capacitor electrode as a result of the second capacitor electrode overlapping the first capacitor electrode such that a gate insulating film is placed between the second capacitor electrode and the first capacitor electrode, and another coupling capacitor is formed between the second capacitor electrode and the second pixel electrode as a result of the second pixel electrode overlapping the second capacitor electrode such that an interlayer insulating film is placed between the second capacitor electrode and the second pixel electrode.

EFFECT: larger aperture in an active matrix substrate operating in capacitor-coupled pixel separation mode.
