FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: lachrymal fluid is examined by IR spectroscopy to determine the relation of the characteristic peak areas of absorption bands; the derived values are compared to a control reference. Non-penetrating wounds are detected if observing an increase of the peak area relations S4/S3 and S5/S3 in 2-2.5 times, while the penetrating wounds are shown by an increase of the peak area relations S4/S3 and S5/S3 in 1.2-1.5 times. S3 corresponds to a spectral band at wave number 1452 cm-1, S4 corresponds to 1548 cm-1 and S5 corresponds to 1649 cm-1.
EFFECT: technique enables specifying a non-penetrating nature of the injury and avoiding a surgical intervention; the technique provides conducting the timely surgical management and determining a therapeutic approach to the patient which makes it possible to reduce the length of hospital treatment and to improve the functional outcome.
