SUBSTANCE: system includes a cable duct containing a communication line, where the duct is mountable to a flat surface. The system also includes a branching box having a base and a removable cover having a flat profile. A mounting section of the base is configured to fit on the outer surface of the cable duct and hang therefrom. A storage region includes one or more guides to route an accessed communication line to a coupling and to store excess communication lines. The coupling device mounting area is configured to receive a coupling, adapter or splice that connects the communication line to a subscriber cable. The system and method for allowing a subscriber location to access communication lines can be used for horizontal cabling in a multi-dwelling unit, a multi-tenant unit and other buildings. Equipment for installing said system is also described.
