FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of producing ethylenediamine carboxylic acids, specifically ethylenediamine-N-monopropionic acid, which can be used as a node for synthesis of polyfunctional ligands and as a complexing agent in analytical chemistry, biology and medicine. The method of producing ethylenediamine-N-monopropionic acid involves reacting acrylic acid with aqueous solution of a copper complex of ethylenediamine, obtained from ethylenediamine and an aqueous solution of copper (II) sulphate, wherein the acrylic acid is taken in stoichiometric ratio to ethylenediamine or with 5-10% molar excess to ethylenediamine of the stoichiometric amount and is added to the solution of the obtained complex while stirring and at temperature of 40-45°C, after which the reaction mass is heated to 60-65°C, held at said temperature for 6.0-6.5 hours, then cooled and the end product is separated by filtration. Ethylenediamine-N-monopropionic acid is obtained with output of 41.4-41.7% and melting point of 230°C (with decomposition).
