FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing ethylenediamine-N,N,N',N'-tetrapropionic acid, used as a complexing agent in analytical chemistry, biology and medical science. The claimed method involves carboxyalkylation of ethylenediamine at an elevated temperature and isolation of the target product. For that purpose, an aqueous solution of acrylic acid is used as a carboxyalkylating agent, heated up to 40-45°C, wherein ethylenediamine is added to the said acid aqueous solution under continuous stirring. The ethylenediamine to acrylic acid molar ratio is 1:4.0-4.4. The reaction mix is stirred at a temperature of 60-65°C, cooled down, and the target product is filtered out.
EFFECT: single-stage method for producing ethylenediamine-N,N,N',N'-tetrapropionic acid with a high purity and high yield product.
