FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device includes a light-emitting apparatus, a transparent element which receives incident light from the light-emitting apparatus and a cover element. The transparent element is formed from inorganic material and is a light-converting element having a light-emitting surface which is not covered from the outside and a lateral surface adjoining the light-emitting surface. The cover element contains reflecting material and covers at least lateral surfaces of the transparent element. Essentially, only the light-emitting surface performs the function of the emitting region of the device. Light with excellent directivity and brightness can be emitted. The emitted light can be easily controlled optically. If each light-emitting device is used as a single light source, the light-emitting device can be used with maximum efficiency.
EFFECT: light-emitting device can emit light with low colour non-uniformity and high brightness.
