FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: claimed invention relates to method of obtaining alkylene glycol, which can be used as raw material in manufacturing fibres, bottles and resins, as well as in composition of automobile antifreezes. Method lies in interaction of alkylene oxide with dioxide of carbon in presence of carboxylation catalyst with formation of alkylene carbonate and interaction of alkylene carbonate with water in presence of hydrolysis catalyst with formation of alkylene glycol, with active phase of hydrolysis catalyst representing one or several bases. Claimed method includes the following stages: (a) addition of initial charge of carboxilation catalyst and initial charge of hydrolysis catalyst for catalysis of reaction between alkylene oxide and dioxide of carbon and catalysis of reaction between alkylene carbonate and water; (b) control of decomposition and activity of hydrolysis catalyst; (c) in case of decrease of activity of hydrolysis catalyst lower than minimal level, addition of additional charge of hydrolysis catalyst, where in case of addition of additional charge of carboxilation catalyst with addition of additional charge of hydrolysis catalyst weight ratio between additional amount of hydrolysis catalyst and additional amount of carboxylation catalyst will constitute, at least, 5:1.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to avoid higher degree of obtaining waste products and lower selectivity.
