FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: piezoelectric transducer excites ultrasonic surface waves; ultrasonic pulses that have travelled through an article are received and time intervals between said pulses are measured, wherein as the wave travels through the article, ultrasonic pulses are detected in at least three points; the pulses are then transmitted to a digital oscilloscope and are then transmitted in digital form to a computer for determining the relationship between amplitude of the ultrasonic pulses and the distance travelled by the waves; further, amplitude of the ultrasonic pulses is normalised, starting with the second, to the amplitude of the first, and after adjustment, time intervals between said pulses are determined.
EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring wave speed.
