SUBSTANCE: liquid crystal display device includes a display panel for displaying an image through liquid crystals whose orientation varies according to voltage applied; a backlight unit with a built-in light-emitting diode, which operates according to the light pulse-width modulation principle, for emitting light transmitted to the liquid crystal display panel; and a control unit for controlling the liquid crystal display panel and the backlight unit. When the response speed (Vr) of liquid crystal molecules is relatively high (Vr2), the light-emitting diode is excited at a relatively low excitation frequency (FQ[PWM]1), and when the response speed (Vr) of liquid crystal molecules is relatively low (Vr1), the light-emitting diode is excited at a relatively high excitation frequency (FQ[PWM]2).
