METHOD OF MAKING TITANIUM SLAG IN ORE FURNACE Russian patent published in 2013 - IPC C22C33/00

FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: prior to heating the furnace, titanium slag heated to 150-250°C is fed therein in amount of 75-200 t. Then, metal wastes and blend consisting of reducing agent and concentrate are fed from above onto aforesaid slag at reducing agent-to-concentrate ratio equal to 1:(11-16). Produced blend is uniformly distributed over the furnace hearth. The furnace is switched on for heating and arcing between electrodes, metal wastes are loaded into the furnace. Note here that for producing the melt above the electrodes mix composed of concentrate, reducer and metal wastes are added in minor portions at the ratio of 1:(0.04-0.15):(0.3-0.6).

EFFECT: strong skull at furnace walls, reduced hearth accretion, longer life.
