SUBSTANCE: medium control device includes a plurality of operating modules which process rolled paper and receipts as a plurality of recording media, and a CPU which controls multiple operating modules by executing commands received from a host computer. When the CPU detects during a normal operating mode that commands for any of the operating modules cannot be executed, the CPU switches to a limited mode, in which commands for that operating module cannot be executed, but commands from the host computer can be received and commands for other operating modules can be executed.

EFFECT: avoiding interruption of all functions of the device when recording is prohibited in the device, having multiple functions, including recording on a recording medium.
