SUBSTANCE: method of operating a high-pressure electrolysis system includes a process of decomposing water with electric current with separate generation of hydrogen and oxygen; collecting the obtained gases in containers with a volume ratio of 2:1, respectively, and measuring the pressure of said gases; after measuring the pressure of oxygen P O 2 , increasing the volume V H 2 of the hydrogen container to a value defined by the relationship: V H 2 = V O 2 ρ O 2 8 ρ H 2 , where V O 2 is the volume of the oxygen container; V H 2 is the volume of the hydrogen container; ρ O 2 is the density of oxygen at pressure P O 2 (in the oxygen container); ρ H 2 is the density of hydrogen at pressure P O 2 (in the hydrogen container).

EFFECT: ensuring reliable pumping into hydrogen and oxygen cylinders at high pressure while maintaining balance of pressure of said gases during electrolysis.
