FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: proposed brake comprises two brake pads, cam means engaged there with to displace them and spring means engaged with said cams. In compliance with first version, comprises drive reduction gear unit and retainer means. Reduction gear unit is engaged with cams to contract springs and to adjust forces acting at cams when the device changes over between brake engagement and release. In compliance with second version, this brake comprises resilient element. Resilient element serves to accelerate the pad towards another pad in release of the spring. In compliance with third version, this brake comprises reduction gear unit driven by the motor and engaged via cams with springs to contract the latter. Method of braking the elevator consists in driving the gear, displacing the pad outer side from outer surface of the other pad by spring contraction, retained the spring as-contracted and releasing the spring.
EFFECT: simplified design, decreased overall dimensions.
