FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to code division multiple access (CDMA) systems and flexible scaling when processing communication signals. A received signal of interest is processed by determining (200) time distribution of interference peaks therein. Receivers can determine when certain types of interference peaks are expected, e.g., based on when transmission of data by different users is scheduled during overlapping portions of the same transmission time interval. Information on time distribution of interference is used by the receiver for flexible scaling (202) of signal values received from the received signal of interest, which coincide with interference peaks, separately from the rest of the signal values. Thus rapid change of interference power can be accurately tracked during periods of known interference peaks, while accurately tracking slowly varying interference power during other periods.
EFFECT: high accuracy of flexible scaling due to use of information on time distribution of interference.
