FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, neurology, methods of preventing, treating neurodegenerative diseases, such as tauopathy, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, and Parkinson's disease. An effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition containing a grape seed extract having less than about 12 wt % of galloyl proanthocyanidins at total weight of proanthocyanidins in the extract is introduced in an individual in need thereof. The composition is administered in an amount effective to reduce the formation of oligomers Aβ, aggregation of tau proteins, aggregation of htt proteins or combinations thereof, particularly - in the dose of approximately 100-1000 mg a day, at rate of administration once a month, every two weeks, once a week or once a day.
EFFECT: method provides enhancing the neuroprotective effect of the composition in the form of preventing the formation or dissolution of existing amyloid fibrils and other similar substances accompanying the above disorders, reducing the side effects of treatment, compared with the compositions wherein the galloyl proanthocyanidin content is above 12%.
