FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for friction weld jointing of thin-sheet structures, mainly, of 0.5-2 mm-thick materials unweldable by fusion. Prior to welding, overlay strap made of material identical to that of billets to be welded is placed on the butt of said billets, its thickness making 0.5-1.0 of that of the billets. Immersed rotary disc is displaced at welding rate along billets butt to soften material of billets and to form weld joint. In welding, rotary disc is immersed in overlay plate so that the distance from disc bottom point to billets surface makes 0.1-0.3 of billets thickness. After welding, residues of said plate are removed.
EFFECT: high quality welding.
