FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for connection by friction welding of joints of large length, mainly, sheet elements and structural units from aluminum or magnesium alloys. Proposed method comprises preparation of blanks, their fixation and welding by rotating tool at its movement with welding speed along seam. Fixation of sheet workpieces is performed by inserting their edges into double-tee lock from filler material with slots corresponding to thicknesses of connected sheet workpieces. Welding is performed by means of rotating rod tool in two passes: first, on one side of connected sheet workpieces with its immersion into double-tee lock from filler material to depth of 0.6–0.7 of thickness of connected sheet workpieces, and then – on opposite side of connected sheet workpieces with its immersion into double-tee lock from filler material at depth of 0.5–0.6 of thickness of connected sheet workpieces with overlapping of first seam.
EFFECT: method ensures production of high-quality joints due to increased symmetry of weld seam relative to edges of sheet workpieces.
