SUBSTANCE: invention relates to protection of reel ends and can be used for steel sheet coils or aluminium sheet coils protection. Protective insert comprises cup and flange. Said flanged extends outward from cup circle. Connection means are arranged at opposite ends of the flange or cup. Said connection means are composed of groove and rod. Protective insert diameter is decreased in implementation of protection method. Insert connection means are engaged. Insert cup is fitted in coil central cavity. Insert diameter is adjusted to that of said central cavity. Protective insert is locked at said diameter.
EFFECT: adjustable diameter of protective insert.
