FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for continuous production of nitrobenzene via adiabatic nitration of benzene with a mixture of sulphuric acid and nitric acid, where the reaction mixture obtained during nitration of nitrobenzene is divided into an aqueous phase and an organic phase; water is evaporated from the aqueous phase and the obtained concentrated sulphuric acid in that degree is partially returned for nitration and sulphuric acid with concentration higher than 65 wt % is additionally fed for nitration in that degree, such that the overall concentration of metal ions forming partially soluble metal sulphates in the reaction zone is less than 900 mg/l with respect to the volume of the aqueous phase containing sulphuric acid.
EFFECT: reliable method where precipitation of solid substances and the associated danger of interruption which can result, for example, in breakdown of measurement and inspection devices is minimised.
