FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing methanesulphonic acid via electrolysis of aqueous dimethyl sulphoxide solution on a methanesulphonic acid background, which is characterised by that 0.1-0.15 M aqueous dimethyl sulphone solution undergoes electrolysis at anode current density of 0.12-0.20 A/cm2. The advantages are that: synthesis of methanesulphonic acid does not require special precautionary measures to avoid evaporation of the starting substance and environmental pollution; efficiency of the process increases due to high anode current density; the end product has high purity and can be concentrated and extracted in pure form by simple evaporation; there is no need for further purification from gaseous by-products; current output is relatively higher than when producing methanesulphonic acid from dimethyl sulphoxide.
EFFECT: conducting electrolysis by replacing the starting substance dimethyl sulphoxide with dimethyl sulphone.
