FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing microcrystalline cellulose involves dissolving 0.01-0.1 g/ml of cellulose in a 5.0-10.0 M aqueous solution of methanesulfonic acid followed by electrochemical purification at anode current densities of 0.005-0.01 A/cm2, filtering, drying and grinding the final product, microcrystalline cellulose.
EFFECT: process of acid hydrolysis of cellulose in a solution of methanesulfonic acid is followed by electrochemical purification of the resulting material, using the method of electrochemical treatment of dissolved cellulose, the number of steps required for purification of microcrystalline cellulose is reduced, and no complex technical equipment is required for carrying out the processes.
