FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: system for emergency cooldown of a nuclear reactor of pond type comprises an emergency cooldown reservoir installed in the reactor pond and communicating by means of a pipeline with the space under the core, which is formed by a horizontal separation partition arranged below the reactor core and the pond bottom. The reservoir is connected with the space above the coolant level in the pond by means of an air duct. The diameter of the pipeline connecting the reservoir of the emergency cooldown with the space under the core is selected such that the initial flow of coolant via the reactor core provides for maintenance of permissible values of temperature of fuel elements.
EFFECT: prevention of overheating of fuel elements.
