FIELD: pool nuclear reactors. SUBSTANCE: nuclear reactor has vessel filled with coolant and accommodating core with shell on its top whose upper part is below coolant level, inlet header connected to bottom part of vessel interior, and outlet header placed under core. Sleeve with bottom is mounted around core with shell in a spaced relation, its upper edge being below shell end; additional shell is mounted around sleeve in a spaced relation, its lower end being attached through sealed joint to outlet header, and its upper end is above upper edge of sleeve. Annular cut between shells is closed by cover with ducts affording hydraulic communication between spaces provided between shells and sleeve, and top part of vessel filled with liquid; flow area Sf of ducts if found from definite equation incorporating, among other values: pressure drop ζt of ducts; coolant and gas densities γw and γb, respectively, at working temperature; core flow area Fc; distance ΔH from lower edge of duct to coolant level in sleeve which exists in case of coolant leakage; coolant discharges σw and σб through circulation loop and maximum permissible discharge under working flow through ducts, respectively; reactor power Qr and coolant heating temperature ΔT in core, coolant heating capacity Cr.
