FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: spiral protection cover of a composite insulator includes attachment of framework (1) with flanges armoured on edges to a winding mechanism rotating it about longitudinal axis with simultaneous movement of framework (1) along its axis by means of controlled actuators (2) and (3). Two shaped belts from organic-silicon rubber are subsequently laid on framework (1); first, belt of rectangular cross-section (4) is laid by means of extruding machine (5) with its further rolling, and then, a belt of conical cross-section is laid on its joints so that ribs (6) are formed and subsequently rolled.
EFFECT: increasing electrical strength of a composite insulator owing to providing close contact of a spiral organic-silicon cover to its framework.
