FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method involves dosed mixing of iron-ore concentrate with carbon-bearing reducing agent in the form of coal, with a component containing calcium carbonate, and with a silica-containing component, agglomeration of charge material, its drying and supply of agglomerated material to a furnace with a rotary bottom, heat treatment in reducing atmosphere so that metallic iron and slag is obtained, and cooling and separation of products. Bituminous and/or brown coal as carbon-bearing reducing agent and natural silica-containing material containing at least 95 wt % of SiO2 as silica-containing component are supplied for mixing. Ratio of the charge components is as follows, wt %: bituminous and/or brown coal - 18-24, calcium carbonate - 3.8-13.7, natural silica-containing material - 1-7, and iron-ore concentrate is the rest. First, agglomerated material is heat treated in a drying chamber at the temperature of 140-250°C. Final heat treatment of material is performed in an annealing furnace with a rotary bottom at the temperature of 1150-1350°C.
EFFECT: method allows reducing power costs, improving use efficiency of charge materials and reducing their losses.
