FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, burdens used for production of steel and alloys in converters and electric arc furnaces. SUBSTANCE: burden for preparation of material for metallurgy has following components, per cent by mass: powdery iron carbide 75.0-85.0 as carbon-carrying material; iron-containing material 12.0-18.0; freshly prepared calcium hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide 3.0-7.0 as binder. Burden may include iron ore concentrate, blast-furnace dust, ferro-vanadium slag as iron-carrying material. Process of preparation of material for metallurgy includes preparation of burden and specified components. If iron ore concentrate is used as iron-containing material they should be mixed and agglomerated. Blackstrap in the amount of 3.0-5.0 per cent by mass of summary content of powdery iron carbide and iron ore concentrate in the form of aqueous solution prepared in terms of one part of blackstrap per 7-8 parts of water is injected into burden prior to agglomeration. Agglomeration may be performed before formation of pellets by 5.0-25.0 mm fractions or by pressing with formation of briquettes. EFFECT: increased efficiency of process. 7 cl, 1 tbl
