METHOD OF AUTOCRUCIBLE MELTING OF METALS AND SLAG LINING FURNACE FOR REALIZATION OF THIS METHOD Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

Abstract RU 2246547 C1

FIELD: special-purpose electrical metallurgy; melting ingots of refractory and high-reaction metals and alloys, mainly titanium alloys by slag lining arc melting.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes loading the charge material in crucible zone bounded by front and side walls and by plane passing over surface of slag lining electrode directed to rear wall of crucible; melting is mainly performed in zone opposite to location of insertion rod. Provision is made for motion of crucible in mutually perpendicular directions relative to axis of electrode holder. Insertion rod is made from material of metal being molten and its part extending beyond outer contour of crucible has bulge. Proposed method makes it possible to obtain consumable lining slag electrode at preset distribution of refractory particles in volume involving alloying agents having high melting points into melting process.

EFFECT: improved quality of ingots.
