FIELD: special-purpose electrometallurgy; melting ingots of refractory and high-reaction metals and alloys, mainly titanium alloys for finishing melting in vacuum arc furnaces.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes melting of refractory and high-reaction metals and alloys in crucible of vacuum skull furnace; tapping the melt into ingot mold and forming the consumable electrode. Consumable electrode being formed has increased mass; electrode is formed during several heats in skull furnace; first melt is tapped into ingot mold of lesser diameter and ingot obtained during successive heat is placed in ingot mold of larger diameter and cavity thus formed is filled with melt.
EFFECT: increased mass of ingots at retained quality corresponding to requirements of aero-space engineering.
