SUBSTANCE: ultrasonic sensor (100) has a housing (101) with a circular side wall (102) and a bottom (104) on which a transducer element (106) for generating ultrasonic vibrations is mounted, wherein the side wall (101) has a lower area (108) on which the side wall (102) in a plane parallel to the bottom (104) has a primarily rotational-asymmetric profile and an upper area (114) on which the side wall (102) in the direction of its upper edge (116) transitions into a substantially rotational-asymmetric profile.

EFFECT: reducing excitation of spurious modes during operation of ultrasonic sensors in transmission mode in order to improve the capacity thereof to take measurements in the near region.
