SUBSTANCE: method and system for visible light communication (VLC) for use in a lighting environment with controlled brightness are provided. The method involves transmitting data using light from at least one light source, wherein brightness of the light reduced below a maximum level. The method also involves compensating for or adapting to the reduced brightness of the light at in VLC circuitry to maintain communication. The method further involves transmitting data to at least one VLC receiver using the light from the at least one light source.

EFFECT: enabling adjustment of brightness of light and fewer communication channels.
