FIELD: radio engineering, communication.
SUBSTANCE: inhomogeneities of the high-latitude disturbed ionosphere are used a passive relay. The inhomogeneities are stretched along the magnetic field of the Earth. A transmitted radio signal is emitted towards the reception direction with regions of ionospheric disturbances of the propagation path at frequencies that are not higher than plasma frequency of the inhomogeneities of the ionosphere. Upon receiving the emitted signal, a receiving antenna is aligned at an angle to the direction of field lines of the Earth's geomagnetic field.
EFFECT: longer communication time in the short wave range at high-latitude radio paths owing to use of an anomalous signal propagation mechanism.
