FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: coating for a cutting tool has at least one layer containing metallic components having the following formula: AlxCr1-x, where x represents an atomic fraction complying with the following ratio: 0≤x≤0.84, and includes nonmetallic components having the following formula: O1-yZy, where Z represents at least one element chosen from the following group: N, B, C, and 0≤y≤0.65, and preferably y≤0.5. The coating is applied at the speed providing formation in it of at least partially non-gamma Cr-containing and oxide-containing phase with a cubic structure that does not change after annealing at the temperature of up to 1000°C during 25 minutes.
EFFECT: obtaining a wear-resistant coating with an increased service life, which is used on machining tools for continuous and intermittent cutting conditions.
