SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of automatic or semi-automatic coffee machines. The automatic coffee machine comprises a cooking unit; a water supply system to the boiler to produce hot water for supplying the said cooking unit; a container for coffee; an electronic control unit; a user interface; at least one capacitive sensor connected to the said container for coffee for detecting the amount of coffee in the said container, connected to the said electronic control unit; at that the said electronic control unit is programmed for supplying through the said user interface at least the information regarding the amount of coffee in the said container; at that the said at least one capacitive sensor comprises at least one electrically-conductive strip which is docked with the said container for setting the signal at least when the amount of coffee in the said container is below the threshold.

EFFECT: avoidance of the situation when the user notices the lack of coffee in the container only if the container is completely empty and in case of failure of one cycle of feeding coffee due to lack of the product.
