SUBSTANCE: method involves transmitting to the input of a device for determining the time of end of the active phase measurement data of range and radial velocity of a missile over identical time intervals that are equal to the scanning period of a radar station, calculating the product of range and radial velocity, generating a fixed "sliding window" type sample of values of the product of range and radial velocity, finding an estimate of the rate of change of the product of range and radial velocity via optimal weighted summation of the sample of values of the product of range and radial velocity, calculating the root-mean-square error (RMSE) of the estimate, calculating the ratio of the velocity estimate to the RMSE of that estimate, comparing the ratio of the velocity estimate to the RMSE of that estimate with a given threshold in each new position of the "sliding window", making a decision on the end of the active phase at a moment in time when the value of the obtained ratio exceeds the given threshold, the value of which is selected in accordance with the required probability of determining the time of end of the active phase.
EFFECT: high probability of determining the time of end of the active phase of a ballistic trajectory by excluding measurement of the elevation angle and azimuth from the processed samples.
