SUBSTANCE: method comprises estimating the rate of change of the product of range and radial velocity in the middle of a sliding window-type observation interval on two fixed samples of the product of range and radial velocity, wherein the sample of a lower volume is part of the sample of a larger volume, and then calculating the ratio of the absolute increment of velocity estimates to the root-mean-square estimation error. A decision on detection of manoeuvre is made at a moment in time when the ratio of the absolute increment of velocity estimates to the root-mean-square error of the velocity estimate becomes greater than a given threshold.
EFFECT: high probability of detecting manoeuvre of a ballistic target by avoiding measurement of the elevation angle and azimuth from processed samples.
