FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: apparatus for monitoring movement of objects through a monitoring region comprises a top camera which detects presence or absence of an object in each zone from a plurality of adjacent zones in said region separately. The zones are arranged such that there are at least two adjacent rows of zones in a first direction and at least two adjacent rows of zones in a direction perpendicular to the first direction. Each zone is associated with a corresponding zonal index. During operation, the camera captures consecutive images of objects moving through the region comprising measured data relating to the presence or absence of objects in each of the zones. A processor is connected to the camera to process measured data and obtain a multidimensional structure of the presence or absence of objects in the zones. The first measurement is time and the second measurement is a zonal index. The processor is capable of segmenting the structure into structural parts associated with events. The apparatus has a classifier for classifying, based on history data, structural parts associated with expected events.

EFFECT: high accuracy of monitoring movement of objects.
