SUBSTANCE: reselection of a network subsystem by a mobile wireless communication device is carried out before initiating connection to a wireless communication network. A connection request is received by the mobile wireless communication device in response to a user signal. Attributes of signals received by the mobile wireless communication device from multiple network subsystems in the wireless communication network are measured during a certain period of time. The mobile wireless communication device interacts with one of the network subsystems and not with the other network subsystems. The mobile wireless communication device reselects one of the network subsystems based on connection quality metrics generated based on the measured attributes of the received signals. After reselection, the mobile wireless communication device initiates connection through the network subsystem selected as a result of the reselection.

EFFECT: enabling selection of a cell with the highest quality of connection from serving and neighbouring cells.
