FIELD: radio engineering and communication.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of radio communication. Present invention provides a mobile station configured to interact with a BSS (a base station subsystem), in which the BSS includes a BTS (base transceiver station). According to the disclosed invention, in a receiving operation, a mobile station receives a multilateration request from the BSS, in the estimation operation, the mobile station evaluates the synchronization accuracy with the BTS in response to the reception of the multilateration request, and in the transmission operation, the mobile station transmits to the BSS RLC a data unit which includes at least (i) a mobile station TLLI and (ii) estimated synchronization accuracy. Additionally, for a case when a mobile station does not perform these operations, BSS may provide SMLC (service center for locating mobile objects) information on capabilities of accuracy of synchronization of transmission of a mobile station, received from SGSN (service node of GPRS support), which enables the SMLC to make a priori estimate as to how many BTSs may be needed to achieve the desired location accuracy and thereby provide the mobile station with more accurate auxiliary information.

EFFECT: increased accuracy of positioning.
