FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medical equipment, namely to catheters used to remove a material from a body cavity area, and particularly to knives, with a possibility to remove soft and solid materials from the body cavity area. An atherectomy catheter comprises a body with a cavity, a pivoting shaft and a knife. The pivoting shaft extends through the body cavity and is connected with the body. The knife having an outer base diameter is connected with the pivoting shaft to rotate the knife about a long axis with a rotation of the pivoting shaft. The knife has a cutting edge that cuts the tissue by the knife rotation, and at least one abrasive surface that cleanses the tissue by the knife rotation. At least one abrasive surface is placed at least on a portion of the outer base diameter. A method for removing the material from the body cavity involves using the above atherectomy catheter, placing the catheter in the body cavity and moving the catheter inside the body cavity to contact the knife with the above material in the above body cavity.
EFFECT: presented invention provides solid and soft tissue cutting.
