FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. Nitrogen oxides are removed from air by passing the air through a granular catalytic reducing mixture of the following composition, wt %: palladium on carbon (5%) 2-10; sodium azide 40-50; hydroperite 20-30; sodium silicate - the balance. The catalytic reducing mixture can be used in human respiratory protective equipment (in gas masks, self-rescue breathing apparatus, protective cartridges) without complicating design thereof, as well as multi-user filter installations.
EFFECT: method is nontoxic, can be carried out at ambient temperature and prolongs the time of protective effect by almost twice the allowable time.
